ya know it's weird around Boston area and a few other areas I noticed that CVS is hiring pharmacy Tecs, auto parts stores are hiring and along with mechanic shops too. I'm sure you'll find something!
Well I am completely incompetent when it comes to mechanics and cars, and I have never had experience in pharmacy which probably means I won't be hired for that. Those are the only openings here, too. Those and heavy lifting, assembly, grounds-keeping, and a lot of other physical stuff that I am just not built to do!
I'm trying to look for a job as a janitor, but I really have no idea how other than going to places to ask. But--how do I go about finding a janitorial job for Hamot or Saint Vincent? Do I just walk in? Will I get weird looks?
I really just wanted to work at Barnes & Noble or Gamestop. Or both.
I know it's a shot in hell, but you can always look on Yahoo jobs. I'm actually getting a LOT of luck there!
You don't want to work for GameStop. Take it from me, and from experience. It is NOT fun, and they give you a runaround with your paycheck where it's on some stupid card for like the first two paychecks until they get around to doing a direct deposit. I never was paid by them.
I doubt anybody will give you a weird look about asking for a job, I can guarantee that they get asked about jobs all the time. <3

Oh, have you tried one of pet stores? Try checking the coprate websites for the places you want to work too. sometimes they post the jobs there. Even in hotels too. Might help out. Oh and some of the people that work in parts stores don't know anything about cars oh have you tried looking for any paid internships? some companies do those too.
>_< If you were in California I'd give you a job in my production department.... I knoes something will turn up soon, but if you're taking commissions I'd gladly purchase a piece or two to help a fellow artist out!
ooh! i know the feeling. i love art but i know its not really gonna get me a job, commerce classes are to hard plus no one reads literature anymore so author is out of the question. i hope you find hope some where!
Art will get you a job if you go into the right business, and if you're good enough. And when you get into the career you want, you will make a TON of money doing it, because it's a skill that not everyone has. A painter might not have much of a chance at getting a job, but a graphic designer or animator with great skill will have plenty of opportunities. It's usually easier, from what I hear, to get noticed while in college, because you have the help of the school and professors, and many opportunities to go on trips to Conventions where many representatives set up booths.
I plan on submitting an animated short and preparing a demo reel for a few different conventions/scholarship opportunities, within the next three years (hopefully I will do this a few times every year.)
And since when did people stop reading books?! If anything, literature has been becoming MORE popular in recent years. Although much of it has shifted onto the internet, people still buy plenty of books and the Library is always busy, when I go. If you want to pursue a career as a writer, then please do so. Always pursue what makes you happy. If you don't make novels, then you'll certainly have chances to be part of a newspaper, magazine, or maybe even have your own popular column somewhere. Even if you don't, you'll still have work perhaps as an editor.
In any case--it's not my future post-college career that I was worried about when I wrote this... I'm more worried about simple summer work, non-art-related.
